KYLEMNGUYEN PORTFOLIO!
A photo of myself

Introduce yourself to everyone.

Hello! My name is Kyle Nguyen.
I am a 3rd-year undergraduate student at the University of Alberta. Majoring in Computing Science and minoring in Mathematics.

What do you do?

I code! I like to work with software development, full-stack development, game development and sometimes a bit of animation.

What kind of stuff are you working on right now?

As of right now, I'm focusing on smaller-based projects. As in: small development web-apps, animation, hackathons/competition-based projects, etc... I'd like to go more into building larger scale projects and hopefully work on some open-sourced ones aswell.

That sound's really interesting.

  Thanks! I think so too.

A knight idle

What's a cool thing about you?

I found out lamb meant sheep meat and baby sheep. I always thought lamb was it's own animal.

I guess that's cool.

but, who are you?

I enjoy trying everything. Whether it is new skills, new hobbies, random facts, if it's interesting to me--i've got to try and learn it. I've gained so many new outlooks, prespectives and experiences through always being open to change.

Wow! What's the influence for this website design?

I wanted it to look like a magazine interview!

Experience & Volunteering

Edmonton, AB | Jan 2026 -- Present

Coding Instructor

Coding Ninjas

As a sensei (what a fun word to use), I assist in developing coding skills with children through platforms involving Microsoft MakeCode, Unity, JavaScript and Python. Through the curriculum I teach foundational coding skills, key concepts, and creative thinking.

Edmonton, AB | Nov 2025 -- Present

Software Programmer

Alberta Bionix

At Alberta Bionix, a University of Alberta biomedical club I am apart of the software developer subdivision. As of right now, I am working as the main programmer in the CVKAS (Computer Vision Kinematics Analysis System) development.

Edmonton, AB | Nov 2025 -- Dec 2025

Barista / Web Developer

Boxcar Coffeeshop

As a barista at Boxcar, I created, decorated, and served confectionaries and desserts. Also, along with working within a tight-knit community I've gained meaningful experiences and relationships with our guests. More on, I ensured and maintained a clean and welcoming environment for guests while supporting their needs.

Edmonton, AB | May 2024 -- 2025

Volunteer

Meals On Wheels

Over at Meals On Wheels, I was a volunteer meal-prepper. I assisted in preparing ingredients used to create meal portions for those in need in the surrounding areas. I also helped in the packaging and sorting of meals, making sure to be aware of each individual hamper's dietary restrictions and needs.

Projects

This is where a lot of fun stuff happens...

uAlberta Microwaves: A real-time microwave map submitted by students

Technology used: Python, JS, Flask, PostgreSQL, SQLite SQLalchemy, Leaflet.js, HTML, CSS, FastAPI,

I remember back in my freshman year of University, I'd often go "Where are the nearest microwaves? Does this campus just have none?!". I don't want other students to feel like there's no option to reheat their soggy leftovers or frozen meal prep. A pretty fun and useful side-project made during winterbreak 2025.

Made using Python & Flask for the backend, PostgreSQL for the database, JavaScript and leaflet.js for the frontend. For hosting I used Render.

NeuroMotion: A EEG-Based Brain Computer Interface

Technology used: Python, Flask, PyTorch, MNE, HTML, CSS, OpenBCI

Pretty cool project I'd say. Made in a group of 6, we developed an software that processes, filters and reads EEG signals. From the signals we then put it through a machine learning model classifying which movement is predicted. Special thanks to: Kishan Prasad, Daniel Yau, Chidinma Obi-Okoye, Lance Quintos, Manas Joshi. A really fun experience!

Specifically, I developed the front-end using JavaScript and Flask. Additionally, I programmed the code to read the Ganglion Unit to read EEG signals. From the signals I applied filtering and feature abstraction to input the information into our ML model.

Boxcar Coffeeshop's website.

Technology used: HTML, CSS, JS, Adobe Fonts, GoDaddy

Web-dev. Made with intentions of being clean, simple, and full of character. I pay respects to the owners of Boxcar, for the opportunity. Thank you.

I used HTML, CSS, JS to create the website, GoDaddy services for web hosting, and Adobe Fonts for font.

BOLD catalogue.
